is aware of many of the issues immigrants face when they move to a new
community and is taking an active role in the Welcoming Communities
program in Vernon. Welcoming Communities, which is funded by WelcomeBC, is
an initiative of the Province of BC and the Federal government to provide
a framework for making BC communities more inclusive for new immigrants
who have been in Canada for less than 10 years. The Welcoming Communities
program goals include supporting intercultural relationships, welcoming
and inclusive workplaces, community spaces and improved access to
community resources. Our involvement includes a feasibility study on
workplace diversity, coupled with a workplace diversity workshop scheduled
for Fall 2013.

Gambling Initiative (2012 - 2013)
Funded by the
City of Vernon and the BC Lottery Corporation, we managed a two year Responsible Gambling
initiative. This initiative raised awareness in Vernon of responsible
gambling practices, and provided information on the services available to
support gamblers and their families. The project was deemed a success by
the funders and we received an award of recognition.
Program (2006 - 2011)
to 2011, the GO Award customer service recognition program was managed by
NexusBC (formerly NOEES). This popular program, which began on May

in the community and served to promote customer service excellence.
